my Agents au!

In this AU, I've chosen not to reveal the Agents' actual names as part of an aesthetic choice. They've adopted human names in order to list humanity's impact on Inkling/Octarian culture.

Captain Agent 3 (Jennifer)

Age-21 (as of S3)

Pronouns-She/They

Backstory (simplified): Basically, as a kid from a town near Inkopolis Plaza, she really wanted to do fashion design in order to inspire new Inklings. She fully went to pursue her dream, and one day on the way to an interview, she stumbled upon a manhole. The rest speaks for itself.

Headcanons:

Not social, but protective of her friends.

Is the type of person that doesn't take crap from anyone

And actually just has a backbone

Very devoted to what she sets her mind to

Probably a weeb

Secretly sort of flirtatious, but has hidden this away for combat instead.

Has a platonic relationship with Agent 8, the two are kind of comfort buddies

She views Neo 3 as a little sister

Despite all odds, she respects Agent 4

Agent 4 (Amy)

Age-19 (as of S3)

Pronouns-She/Her

Backstory (simplified): She grew up in a small town pretty far from Inkopolis and devoted herself to studies after her father unexpectedly left, knowing that it is what he would have wanted. She later had a strained relationship with her mother and went to Inkopolis Square to enroll at Inkblot Art Academy for an advanced program. Then she met Marie and the rest speaks for itself.

Headcanons:

Really social and outgoing 

Would probably rant about science all day

Hates being called a pushover

Encourages others but likely has only a bit of self-esteem

On the topic of studying, is actually really smart

Out of school, probably dabbles on anime and gaming a few times

Does art, doesn't feel it's her passion but will agree to it

Agent 8 (Bianca)

Age-19 (as of S3)

Pronouns-She/Her

Backstory (simplified): Agent 8 was a soldier in the Octarian army and remained as such until she was freed by the Calamari Inkantation. Later, she just looked for a place to stay for about 2 years until the confrontation with Agent 3 and Cap'n Cuttlefish. Thus leads to the Expansion storyline.

Headcanons:

Sweet and kind, but is by no means a doormat

Really obsessed with cleaning

Very trained in combat, prefers to be a pacifist

Loves calm and quiet areas but accepts louder areas

Takes some things personally

Advocate for Inkling/Octarian peace

Probably a fan of aesthetically pleasing places

Fan of softer music

Neo 3 (Stella)

Age-14 (as of S3)

Pronouns- She/Her-They/Them (is welcoming to both she/her and they/them. sorry if there are any inaccuracies here)

Backstory: She grew up near the Splatlands in a somewhat colder town (average temperature) and after the passing of her mother, she ran away at 12 to live in Splatsville. Around this time, she found Little Buddy. The two became quick friends and Neo 3 sold scrap for a living. Then she met Cuttlefish.

Headcanons:

Actually does studying for fun

Loves the human culture that comes with any area

Usually hangs out with Little Buddy or the Squidbeak

"I can sing!" *too much vibrato and head singing*

A huge tomboy (with some preferences for feminine activities)

Slightly wavy tentacles

Kind of tanned skin, this is NOT due to heat and is passed on from her father

Some Splatoon headcanons, just because. Mostly Callie and Marie, but some Pearl and Marina ones too. Squid/octopus based info, life style stuff, etc.

Callie is based on the bigfin reef squid (aori-ika, her Japanese name is Aori), which has the ability to reflect light. Mainly Callie’s tentacles (hair?) are reflective, especially the tips, but her eyes are also really shiny. This causes photos with flash to be difficult, as her eyes look like they’re glowing (like taking a photo of a cat in the dark). Like the bigfin reef squid, she tends to migrate towards things that light up, though generally unintentionally. She’s a couple inches taller than Marie, despite being a year or so younger. Good at cooking, she usually is the one who makes meals for her and Marie. Judd sometimes stays with them in their apartment; Callie cried when he brought home lil’ Judd (she named him). Likes rollers, mainly the Dynamo and Flingza types built for jumping and swinging.

Marie is based on the firefly squid (hotaru-ika, her Japanese name is Hotaru), which has the ability to produce light. Only Marie’s tentacles light up (also mainly the tips), though her eyes can also give off a faint glow. She tends to light up when embarrassed, though she’s good at hiding/controlling it. Her eyes are naturally black (like in her Agent 2 icon), but she wears contacts to match Callie for the look. Marie does a fair amount of the cleaning, though she leaves the vacuuming and dusting to Callie. She gets really quiet when something bothers her. Likes chargers and isn’t too picky about the type, though the E-Liter’s range makes it one of her favorites. Iffy about scopes in case Callie sneaks up on her.

Pearl is based on the northern pygmy squid (hime-ika, her Japanese name is Hime), which is closely related to cuttlefish. She gets her pointy middle top and bottom teeth from this, as human-cuttlefish’s teeth are more beak-like. She grew up in a more well-to-do family, and was interested in a career in music at a young age. Folk-singing wasn’t really her thing, but her talent for rhyme and freestyle rapping helped her find what she likes (though she was uneasy about sharing it at first). She went to Inkblot Art Academy for music and fashion design (the King line is hers), and thought about a solo career before she met Marina and formed Off the Hook. Marina stays in her apartment with her. Is a fan of DJ Octavio, though getting his merch is really hard in Inkopolis. Spyke helps out. Likes dualies, mainly the Enperry brand version as it matches her King line. She’s really fast and small, so trying to splat her is a huge pain.

Marina is based on the webfoot octopus (iidako, her Japanese name is Iida), which has a tendency to hide in shells. She gets her somewhat cautious and nervous nature from this, though she’s more open around people she’s comfortable with (Pearl). Was previously enrolled in the Octarian army and was climbing the ranks, but never felt comfortable in the position, even when just working with equipment (which she found more enjoyable). Went to a DJ Octavio concert, which she met Pearl at (why is an Inkling underground? who knows. Pearl accidentally punched her in the chin when jumping in excitement and they got talking) and decided right there to become a DJ as well (with some encouragement from Pearl). They usually collaborate on making music and lyrics, though sometimes one of them will write something, and the other will come up with the other part after. Is a fan of the Squid Sisters, though getting their merch was difficult in Octarian territory. Likes heavy splattling guns, though she can use just about anything.
